I don't think #NetworkEngineering is that popular on Mastodon, but I'm posting here anyway. I'm starting a local meetup here in #Toronto for Network Operators. A small NOG, in the vein of #NANOG

The Internet has divided itself into two main use cases: There’s the client-server model where we consume content from centralized services, and there’s the peer-to-peer model where we are need the ability to directly connect. NAT has preserved IPv4 viability for the former while sacrificing the latter. The client-server model has become the vast majority of use cases, leaving many ISPs to treat peer-to-peer requirements as corner cases. This is not good for a free and open Internet. #NetEng
This needs saying occasionally: NAT is needed when going from private IPv4 to public IPv4 •if• the traffic is going to a place where we don’t control the routing. If it’s within our routing domain, it’s 100% optional and gives us better visibility if we don’t bother. #NetEng
Glitter and packets, what could be better?? A shirt with both, I say.
NSRC at the University of Oregon is looking for Network Engineer and Peering Coordinator for the #RouteViews project. If you aren't familiar with RouteViews and you're a network engineer, it's worth checking out. https://www.routeviews.org/routeviews/
This is sure to be a fun gig with an absolutely fantastic group of folks doing interesting and impactful work. Things like this don't come up often so if you're interested, check it out here:

Folks can say what they want about the relevance of certifications, but I’ll throw this out there: Even if we never write the tests, following the certification blueprint is a good approach to learning a technology without a lot of gaps in our understanding. #Certification #NetEng
Anyone know what happened yesterday evening in the European #Internet core?
Multiple paths transiting France/Germany had very poor performance. Looks to be fine today.
Absolutely loved recording a podcast with the awesomely talented Andrea Perez. It's a passion of mine to get more folks into networking.
We talk getting started, keeping going, importance of community - with some extra encouragement for those blazing trails.
